How You Can Help:
April 18, 2005
Dear Members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence:
While we applaud Congress’ promise to hold oversight hearings concerning the USA Patriot Act, we are concerned that Congress will focus too narrowly on that Act and ignore the broader civil rights, human rights and civil liberties issues that are of concern to our organizations and all Americans.
Congress must recognize that widespread opposition to the USA Patriot Act reflects a more general discomfort over the government’s actions. It should note that the “anti-Patriot Act” resolutions passed bymore than 360 communities and four states in fact deal with a wide array of issues outside the scope of the USA Patriot Act.
We urge the Congress to examine the many rights and liberties issues that have arisen since 9/ll, including the following:
Mass secret arrests of Arabs and Muslims followed by detention for extended periods without charges, denials of access to counsel, secret hearings and, in some cases, abuse by prison guards;
Abuse of the material witness authority to detain citizens and others without charges;
Discriminatory enforcement of the immigration laws, leading to arbitrary
detentions and deportations;
Detentions of Americans incommunicado as “enemy combatants” without access to lawyers or the courts;
Expanded use of secret wiretaps and secret searches of Americans’ homes and offices;
Massive growth in surveillance technologies and authority (including the
authority under the USA Patriot Act to seize library and medical records and all commercial databases) with inadequate legal protections against abuse;
Spying on lawful political and religious activity; and
Eavesdropping on attorney-client communications without judicial approval or oversight.
Taken together, these issues reflect a steady assault on fundamental rights and liberties that has served only to make us less free, and not more secure. With few exceptions, Congress has failed to address these issues. To the contrary, it is continuing to consider legislation, such as the REAL ID Act, that targets immigrants and asylum seekers unfairly without enhancing security. For Congress now to focus only on the concerns raised by the USA Patriot Act would be inappropriate.

Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi: this is pathetic, heartbreaking and treasonous. You MUST relieve Bush of command.
by Jay Esbe Page 1 of 1 page(s)
http://www.opednews.com
Why is it left to us, ordinary American citizens to fairly scream for an appropriate response from our supposed leaders?
Dick Cheney calls Harry Reid’s statement that the war is lost “defeatist” and accuses him of “emboldening our enemies” and further goes on to state that if the Democrats get their way, “the consequences will belong to them”.
Mr. Reid’s “response”? ‘an attack dog has been let loose and it’s attacked me’. This is your response to this Mr. Reid?
Let me ask you; were your testicles surgically removed, or did they never develop?
Dick Cheney’s statement is beyond outrageous. It’s the strict equivalent of a mass murderer blaming the parents of his own victims for their deaths.
Dick Cheney’s statement is beyond outrageous. It’s the strict equivalent of a mass murderer blaming the parents of his own victims for their deaths.
Bush and Cheney plunged this nation into war through willful deliberate fabrication of false evidence, through the suppression of exculpatory evidence, and are single handedly responsible for ANY outcome, whether they are in power or not.
Their actions were not “misguided”, their actions were not “mistakes”, but as sure as the arsonist who puts the match to the gasoline puddle, their actions were deliberate crimes and the ultimate effect of those actions can belong to no one else; this is as outrageous as the aforementioned arsonist claiming city hall will be to blame if the out of control fire they started continues it’s destructive rampage as the arsonist insists upon directing the operations supposedly to put it out.
It is THAT absurd, and yet here we have the Senate majority leader responding, nearly crying really, that he’s “being attacked”.
There came a point at which any failure to remove Bush/Cheney from command ceased being an option, and became an imperative, the failure of which to undertake to protect the Republic, became criminal. That day has twice passed; first under the criminally complicit GOP who lead the way into hell, and secondly, the second day that the so-called opposition party took power and not only failed to produce articles of impeachment, but actually refused to undertake it.
This is criminal complicity. The motive does not have to be guessed at, for they have openly stated that they do not intend to pursue impeachment because they believe they can increase their political capitol and chances to win the White House in 2008.
This is both treasonous conduct for the worst of motives, and dead wrong.
The majority of the American people have never held much respect for the Democratic party; it took a disaster and crimes of the proportions generated by the Bush administration to finally return them to a majority party, unarguably on the sheer desperation of the American people’s unwillingness to endure the Bush administration and it’s ruinous actions and corruption another day.
Note this Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi: If you believe you can drag this national nightmare out on the bodies of our children, to the continued decimation of our military, and endless death in Iraq and continued despair of the American people as you “increase your chances at the White House”, you are as delusional, corrupt, and criminal as Bush and Cheney are.
The ONLY way you “own” the results in Iraq, is if you allow this to continue.
You have, and at this point, if you fail to act, you will indeed own the outcome, for you will have endorsed Bush's actions by default.
This is to those who knew better and who KNOW better in congress, and yet who still stand by in silence and agreement with Pelosi’s outrageous and unconstitutional declaration that “impeachment is off the table”:
Not only will I not vote for any of the Democrats who’ve refused to stand and to save us from this maggot, this traitor, but if you don’t act now and do what the Constitution requires you do with a rogue, criminal President, I am prepared to vote against EVERY Democrat, no matter who they are.
I am prepared to punish every single one of you, even the better, along with the worse.
I am prepared to punish every single one of you, even the better, along with the worse.
You had better wake the fuck up and realize that Pelosi not only had no right to make that statement, but that you are going pay a very heavy price for allowing it to stand.
I will not take part in this.
If you do not stand and fulfill your constitutional obligations to this nation by removing George W. Bush and Dick Cheney from office, I will not participate rewarding you with either a majority in congress again, or the Presidency if I can help it.
You had better start screaming and fighting tooth and nail, and soon. I would begin with voting for a new majority leader in both houses.
